Omeprazole Z? I had a prescription for 2 x 20 mg Omeprazole (regular) per day but the pharmacy gave me 2 x 25 mg Omeprazole Z. Pharmacy say ask doctor if ok. Doctor says never heard of Z. Helpppp! Urgent

Paula84 replied: "that's probably a generic ie the same drug but a cheaper version. a 5mg difference in omeprazole won't do any harm and will exert the same effect. i don't think you should worry about it."

Robert B replied: "hi Im on that drug normally given for tummy ulcers to prevent or suppress them don't worry its ok to take them ....Be well."

theverysexybird replied: "dont worry and take it, your stomache must be playin you up if you got prescribed it as iv got the same medication for acid in my stomache, the z could stand for zoton which is another name for that paticular medication, iv been on it years and it wont harm you honest, if it says omezaparol on the box then its all good, take it and youl feel alot better xx"

Dr Frank replied: "The pharmacist is not allowed to issue any drug or drug dose not prescribed by your GP. Take it back and insist on the correct prescription!"

Sodium bicarb liquid need to disolve omeprazole capsules for my son? my local pharmacy cannot get any until next wed! It needs to be a pharmaceutical formula Thanx for info MurryW. It is being given via gastro peg, therefore using juice/yogurt not an option. Capsule skin or granules will not dissolve in water. Anything thicker will block the peg & feed will not run through.

petrel replied: "You probably have it in powdered form in your kitchen cupboard. Just add water."

la.bruja0805 replied: "Try your local supermarkets that have in store pharmacy. Phone NHS 24 before assuming you can just add water to the powder."

Murray W replied: "Have a read of this: "

Can I take 30mg of Zanprol (from the pharmacist) I ran out of my Protium 40mg ? I was wondering if it's OK to take 30mg or 40mg of Zanprol (Omeprazole) from the pharmacy. I forgot to pick up my prescriptions and won't be able to until Wednesday or so. I normally take 40mg of Protium. my pharmy is at the doctor's office and i'm in town so i bought some zanprol from the pharmacist but forgot to ask if it's ok to take (3) or (4) 10mg tablets.

bella m replied: "The simplest thing to do would be to ring your doctor's office and ask, or ring the pharmacy. They are both proton pump inhibitorss. Re Zanprol:- "You hould tell your pharmacist what medicines you are taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you buy this medicine. This is so the pharmacist can make sure this medicine is safe and suitable for you to take"."

Rhianna replied: "Hi yes that's fine, they are different drugs but they both have the same action. It's fine to take Omeprazole instead of Protium. If you normally take 40mg of Protium, take 20mg of Omeprazole. If you are uncertain of anything, then check with your Pharmacist. There is no need to worry about other drug interactions- if you were OK to take Protium then you will be OK to take Omeprazole (unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients.)"

Omeprazole and Protonix? Hi yesterday my doctor prescribed Protonix (pantoprazole) for my acid reflux..So I went to the pharmacy to get it and the pharmacist said it was very expensive around $90 and told me I can get Omeprazole instead which is over-the-counter for only $17 and that the two medicines are the same so I got the cheap one. And I was wondering from experience (if anyone knows). Is Omeprazole and Protonix (pantoprazole) the same thing. Would taking Omeprazole be the same as taking Protonix?

Your Highness replied: "Umm Well, i'm no doctor, but my first thought would be no. It pretty much does the same thing because pantoprazole and omeprazole are ppi's (proton pump inhibitors) but they are not the same thing. Pantoprazole is in Protonix. Omeprazole is in like..Prilosec, or the stuff I take, Zegerid. From my experience they do work differently for different people too..like I started out with Protonix a few months ago and it made me feel awful and even worse. My doctor switched me to Zegerid and the difference was amazing. But...anyway, you should be fine just taking the omeprazole unless theres a specific reason your doctor prescribed pantoprazole."

Ron V replied: "All drugs of this class, proton pump inhibitors or PPI's inhibit the production of stomach acid. Each however might perform this differently depending on their chemical makeup. I personally have found that certain PPI's made me ill while others were perfectly fine. You will need to find one that has the least number of side-effects for you. I tolerate Omeprazole quite well; could not take Protonix (bad stomach cramps). Since it's a generic and costs a lot less why not start with this? Also, be sure to check the interactions of the PPI with other drugs you may be taking. Some of them can cause interactions. Good luck! Ron"

Lea replied: "The drug are different but similar. They are both proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). They are both equally effective. Some people will have better results with one or the other. There is nothing wrong with taking omeprazole instead of protonix. You might want to inform your doctor that you decided to try omeprazole."

MEdicines in Turkey-Omeprazole-Losec? Hi: I am travelling to Turkey in a week and I need to know if there are pharmacies that sell the medicine called Losec...with the ingredient Omeprazole. I need this for my acid reflux and I want to make sure that they sell this...please help

Robert replied: "There should be pharmacies there that carry omeprazole. If they do not have that, they would have something similar. But, I would recommend buying it here before leaving because there more counterfeit medications out in foreign countries(there are counterfeits here too, but not as much) Happy Travels"

Help with homework... due tomorrow. pharmacy? !!!HELP with Pharmacy questions. PLEASE HELP!!!!!? I missed these on the test, and we get to correct them but i don't know the answers. I am getting a tutor this weekend, but i need to get this in tomorrow PLEASE HELP!!! 1. Five pints of diluted hydrochloric acid weigh 2.79kg. What is its specific gravity? 2. How many grams of 2.5% hydro-cortisone cream should be mixed with 240g of 0.25% hydro-cortisone cream to make 1% hydro cortisone cream? 3. What is the correct dosage for a 25lb child if the adult dose is 100 mg? 4. What is the flow rate of a 1L of normal saline to be infused over 8 hours? 5. how many milligrams are equal to 2 grains? 6. How many milliliters of a 1:50 (w/v) stock solution can be prepared from 1 pint of a 5% stock solution? 7. Which of the following is not an antiviral agent: acyclovir, Clotrimazole, Didanosine, Zidovudine. 8 Which of the following drug is not available as an OTC: A) Aluminum hydroxide-magnesium-hydroxide B) Lansoprazole C)Omeprazole D) Ranitidine

JJ replied: "idk but try googling it"

Danny N replied: "It would probably help more to ask on the Science and Medicines area, since this is a specific job study you're studying for, where as in the homework help area you just have bored college students (still getting their bachelors) and high school students roaming around... But #8 I can help you solve! Just look up the prefixes and suffixes, and then the whole word to find out what medicines they're found in."

Argent replied: "1. 5 pt × 0.473 L/pt = 2.366 L; 2.79 kg / 2.366 L = 1.179 kg/L = 1.179 g/mL. 2. x grams of 2.5% ointment has 0.025x g hydrocortisone; 240 g of 0.25% ointment has 0.0025(240) = 0.6 g hydrocortisone; (240+x) g of 1.0% ointment has 0.01(240+x) g hydrocortisone. Combine these: 0.025x + 0.6 = 2.4 + 0.01x, or 25x + 600 = 2400 + 10x, or 15x = 1800, or x = 120 g. 3. It depends on what is the (average) weight of an adult. Taking this to be 150 lb, the child's dose would be (25/150)(100 mg) = 17 mg (to 2 significant figures). 4. 1 L = 1000 mL in 8 hours = 125 mL/hr. 5. 1 gr = 1/7000 lb; 1 lb = 453.59 g; 1 gr = 453.59/7000 = 0.0648 g = 64.8 mg; 2 gr = 129.6 mg, or 130 mg to 2 significant figures. 6. 5% = 1:20, so 1:50 is 1/2.5 times the strength of the stock solution. 2.5 × 1 pt × 473 mL/pt = 1182.5 mL = 1180 mL (to 3 significant figures). 7. Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent. 8. Ranitidine is still prescription-only."

is it safe to take these meds together? Omeprazole 20mg (Prilosec) and Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and Tylenol?? I'm taking Prilosec for my stomach ulcer. and I have to be on my BC. i have a bad headache and was wondering if it was okay to take a Tylenol. its too late to call a Pharmacy to ask... so id ask here. thanks! i had a lot of blood work done a week ago and it didn't turn anything up, just that my white blood cell count was high. so the dr thinks its an ulcer. im having a berum enma done next tuesday... that was too much! so yeah.... anyways... thanks ....

fungusflu replied: "This combo should be O.K."

tchlmcc replied: "You won't have any problems taking all 3 meds together, although you shouldn't take the birth control within an hour of the Prilosec as it alters the absorption rate in your body. If you do indeed have a true ulcer which was proven by way of an H. Pylori blood test then you should actually be on the proper triple therapy regimen of an antibiotic, antifungal and acid reducer. Sounds more like you just have GERD though (acid reflux troubles)."

dudette replied: "i'm not sure but if your worried then some countries have a 24 h hotline you can call for medical advise or wait till the morning to call the pharmacy"

oldtimekid2 replied: "According to Omeprazole is a generic version of Prilosec. It's an OTC option for acid reflux, but not the same as Protonix (which is the name brand of Pantoprazole). That being said, I would also recommend looking for other options or talking to a dietitian or nutritionist to find out why you're having the reflux in the first place. Personally, I wouldn't take Prilosec or any other acid-blockers because I know that you need stomach acid to digest food and many people don't get sufficient nutrition (namely the minerals and protein that are harder to digest) when they're on it... and it makes it almost impossible to digest a tablet if you take other pills. I'm consistently amazed the doctors gloss over that fact. I know quite a few people who have eliminated their reflux by changing their diet and working with supplements (including Apple Cider Vinegar) to control or even remove their reflux without the drugs (which often make it much worse in the long run and only give temporary relief). Good luck and I hope I helped!"
