What are the benefits of taking wellbutrin? Does it increase sex drive,and arousal,and decrease your cravings to smoke.

How long does it take for the side effects of Wellbutrin to show up? I understand that it takes a while for the benefits of wellbutrin to take effect, but what about the side effects?

Vera Gabriele replied: "I am sure that differs from person to person.. maybe you won't have any side effects.. every side effect mentioned on the package of any medication.. are all the possible side effects that could affect a person.. as we are all different, everybody reacts to a drug differently.. which is also why one should never share medication also not when one has the same condition. maybe you are lucky and you only have mild side effects....or none.. some people never have side effects when on a medication.. like anti anxiety or antidepressant but they get very bad side effects when they start to cut down on the medication..... xxx This is what it says about the side effects... The side effects listed below are not experienced by everyone who takes this medication. If you are concerned about side effects, discuss the risks and benefits of this medication with your doctor. The following side effects may go away as your body becomes used to the medicine; check with your doctor if they continue or become bothersome So you see, the side effects vary.. not every person will get side effects... so maybe you won't get any... xxThe pharmacies have to protect themselves.. but I am sure you won't get this.. there are loads of possible side effects so please don't think you get them all that would pretty much be a disaster and they put a big list of side effects which are possible but unlikely on all medication so please relax... if you read the side effects the medication can cause.. xxx You can always ask your pharmacist as well they can give you a good idea when the medication should start to take effect and if there are side effects when you would experience them at the earliest.. they know the same the doctor knows about this medication.. Normally I think it takes around 3 weeks for some meds to take full effect... Effexor is another one.. there it takes 3 weeks for full effect so it says... xxx"

When did you notice some benefit from Wellbutrin? I am on Wellbutrin XL. Just wondering when you started to notice *some* benefit? (I am aware full benefit can take upwards of 6 weeks)

Emm replied: "My brother never really did. Sorry, that probably didn't help much. He started to notice *some* benefit probably around two weeks. At least... thats when me and my family noticed a slight change."

I know my sex drive is falling because I am getting off of Wellbutrin. Help? I have to get off of Wellbutrin because my husband and I are trying to conceive. One of the many benefits of Wellbutrin is the increased sex drive that it has definately given me.

Turtle Mama replied: "You may wish to do some additional homework on if you need to get off Welbutrin. I am TTC and my OB/GYN said I could stay on it. You may just need to change the type you take - XL or SR. This was a huge concern for me because I have been on it for several years. He said for me to take a lower does - just for maintenance and it would be fine. The first thing we must remember is that Mom needs to be healthy both physically and mentally healthy for baby to develop well and for you to be a good Mommy! Good Luck!"

Who had had experience with a combination of Wellbutrin and Effexor? I am currently on 150mg of Wellbutrin and 300 mg of Effexor daily as well as 100mg of Seroquel at night. I have BPD, dyshtymia and OCD and wondering if others have had benefits from this cocktail

Tina K replied: "I took Wellbutrin for a while. I was also on Zoloft, but Wellbutrin was added when I complained of a lowered sex drive. It help make me more motivated in general. The best thing is it worked in two weeks. When I first went on Zoloft, it was about 10 weeks before I felt anything. I had no negative side effects. Feel free to contact me on anything related to depression, even if you just need to talk."

HK3738 replied: "well it is a good anti depressant, I have seen plenty getting benifit from this drug. Insomnia is a common and possible side effect. The summary is not every drug works for everyone, so if you have tried this drug for 4-8 weeks and are taking maximum dosage and have no benifit then your doctor may consider adding another or replacing this with another drug. feel free to email me with any questions"

Gen replied: "Oh heavens yes! My husband's on it... it's like, he's human again! He's stopped being depressed, yes, but it's also eased his paranoia, done good things to his blood pressure and blood sugar, AND it's helping him lose weight, both because the drug helps, and because he feels cheerful and motivated to eat healthy and exercise. I'm generally against drugs when they're not needed, but this one, I think he needs it, and we need him. It's different for everybody, but for us, this one works. The biggest con is, it makes him sleepy. So he takes it at night instead of in the mornings... which makes it a pro, because he had trouble sleeping before."

Dana replied: "It wasn't very beneficial for me, but then again, I was just diagnosed as bipolar, so that would explain it... It basically sent me into mania and hypomania. It did dramatically reduce my appetite, and I lost a lot of weight, but it really didn't help my depression much...but then again I really don't have "depression", I'm BP, so that would explain it."

firemanwfd17 replied: "I have taken Wellbutrin twice. I did not take for depression I took it for smoking. It works wonderful for the smoking however I did have moderate depression while on the medication. Some other problems people expericence are seizures and loss of sex drive (bummer). But I would consult your doctor and see what he/she thinks."

Sunshine replied: "I was on Zoloft for a while and loved it! But, in the meantime my sex drive was almost zero! My doctor put me on Wellbutrin and it did nothing for me, at all! So, I guess my answer is, no, I have not benefited from taking Wellbutrin."

Does anyone know why the drug Klonopin would be added to Wellbutrin and Lexapro? I've been trying to get the right mix of drugs with my therapist for major clinical depression and GAD. I get it that Welbutrin can enhance the Lexapro somehow, but what exactly is the Klonopin for? Says somehing about seizures, which is certainly not my problem. I can't afford a drug that is of questionable benefit. Dumped Buspar for that reason. I'd talk more with my shrink but can't afford another $160 right now. Any imput would be truly appreciated. I just want to thank all those who gave such informative and caring answers.

chloe replied: "reduces anxiety. many drugs have multiple uses. another use of this medicine is seizure...for u however, it's an anxiolytic. don't worry about it having questionable benefit...it's a good anxiolytic. just need to try it out and see. try it for at least 2 weeks. it works much differently from lexapro and wellbutrin."

Diaboyos replied: "Klonopin is like a strong Xanax. It takes longer to enter the bloodstream than Xanax but it stays in the system longer providing sustained relief."

Manda replied: "lexapro and welbutrin is for depression and klonopin is for anxiety but i would think if your on the welbutrin and lexapro there shouldnt be a reason y u need klonopin i would say u need a knew doc. good luck"

dawneve13 replied: "Klonopin is a medication used to reduce anxiety. You can compare it to xanax and valium. It is highly addictive but if medically needed really does work well to destress the superstressed. Just be careful. Have the Klonopin monitored well by your Dr. Take it exacly as prescribed, or less if you can handle it, and be sure to be monitored while taking it. If you stop taking it without weaning off of it you will most likely experience withdrawel symptoms. I hope you have a highly skilled Dr. and a highly skilled and very caring therapist. Klonopin is not a drug to be taken lightly. Be well."

Paula P replied: "Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication. It is for your GAD. It is in the benzodiazepine family like Valium, Ativan, and Xanax. It is used for short term treatment of anxiety and is addictive. If you take it for a few months, do not stop it suddenly because you may have severe withdrawal symptoms. You can experience withdrawal symptoms in a shorter time but they may be a bit less severe. This is a good medication for anxiety but 50% of the people who take it have excessive sleepiness or are tired (at first). There are many different combinations of medicines and if you have a good psychiatrist, you will likely get a good combination that will work for you, eventually. You will save a lot of money with your psychiatrist if you make notes between visits about the way you feel from day to day. Also, make a list of what could be medication side effects. Always ask why he is prescribing a medication and ask about side effects or other facts that you should know. Ask him why he (or she) is giving you the combination of medications that you are receiving. Give every medication at least 4-6 weeks to work. Some of them have adverse side effects that go away and some take a while for you to even know if they work for you. Your doctor needs all of the information that you can tell him to choose the best medications for you and your chemistry. This is not an exact science, everyone is different in the way that they react to the different combinations so you need to be informed and make sure that your psychiatrist is, too."

My doc seems to think I would benefit from taking Wellbutrin....? I am scared to take antidepressants. I really wanted to try to get over this on my own without medication. I am on the fence about taking pills. What do you all think?

Lisa replied: "There are lots of antidepressants. They all have side effects. Some worse than others. Wellbutrin tends to make people not sleep as well but if you smoke it is actually the same drug as zyban and helps people quit smoking. If you absolutely don't want to take medication, then you should see a psychologist for counselling."

*sunshine replied: "I hate taking pills too but sometimes there's no choice. You either want to feel better or ya don't. If you have the chemical type of depression then the only answer is medicine. If your depression is the environmental type, then it is possible to get over it on your own. Best of luck to you."

catlady replied: "when i saw my psychiatist today, he told me that starting or stopping anti-depressants can cause suicidal thoughts. just wanted to pass that along as possible side affect. when i had depression only- wellbutrin helped me. if you have been depressed for more than just a couple weeks i would try the pills. I have also heard that st. johns wart (herbal remedy)is good for depression. remember to let dr know if you are taking any herbs or vitimins. people with depression and other mental illness are no different than somebody with high blood pressure or diabites who have to take medication - sometimes for the rest of their life. (dr reminded me of this today). wellbutrin is also used to help people quit smoking ciggs. i hope this helps you."

my wellbutrin does not work at all? i am using it for ADD, but i heard it is used primarily for anxiety and depression. well i feel absolutely nothing from the medicine, no benefits, no side effects, i feel the exact same way. i have been on it for a while and im on the highest dose, so what is going on? also, i want to get drunk this weekend, i will be fine right?
