Is this normal with percocet withdrawal? I've been taking Percocet for 8 months for back pain and eventually surgery. I was on 30 mgs of Oxycodone every 4 hours for 2 weeks after the surgery which took place in Feburary of this year, then 20 mgs 3 times a day for 3 months, then I was on 35-40 mgs a day. I have decided that I've had enough of taking the Percocet and have decided to just stop cold turkey. My dr. prescribed Clonidine and Ativan for 2 weeks to help with the withdrawals. It is now 48 hours and I feel great! The first 24 hours were rough but, bearable. Will I now start to feel better every day from now on Or will I be suprised tomorrow and feel horrible? Is the worst over? I did this on my own. I don't even feel the need to take the Percocet. I actually threw out the remainder.

SunBeam replied: "Typically, the signs of percocet withdrawal should show up in the first 12-24 hours. By 48, if you are still without symptoms I suspect you are past the window for true withdrawa. You may have minor symptoms, but no real withdrawa."

skaaz replied: "I took Xanax for months and quit cold turkey also. I had severe withdrawal symtoms and eventually a seizure but after it all happened, I am now fine, I don't get physical withdrawals but sometimes mental. The only thing I think would be a worry is the mental (addictive) need for them but you shouldn't have anymore physical withdrawals."

criminal at large replied: "the first 3 days is the worst the ativan and clondine made it a lot easier you might need to take some emodium ad for the squirts pls email me your Dr name an address"

Percocet withdrawal question? I've been taking Percocet for 8 months for back pain and eventually surgery. I was on 30 mgs of Oxycodone every 4 hours for 2 weeks after the surgery which took place in Feburary of this year, then 20 mgd 3 times a day for 3 months, then I was on 35-40 mgs a day. I have decided that I've had enough of taking the Percocet and have decided to just stop cold turkey. My dr. prescribed Clonidine and Ativan for 2 weeks to help with the withdrawals. How should I expect to feel during the withdrawals with the help of these scripts and how long should I expect to go through withdrawals? That should be 20 mgs not 20 mgd

karma replied: "google opiate withdrawl but you will get sick -flu like systoms but stronger , very agitated won't be able to sleep It is not fun and last 3-4 days which will be the longest of your life .Talk to your dr. about either weaning you off or switching to an extened release kind. I take 30 mg. of morphine 2 x a day and it works fine .The dr should know you can not just stop"

DEB M replied: "You should never stop taking a pain medication cold turkey. You need to ween off of it gradually because of the withdrawels. Clonidine and Ativan will calm you some what but if you stop cold turkey you are going to have serious withdrawals. Hope this helps."

jane doe replied: "I used oxycontin for 3 years and I went cold turkey (only because inpatient rehab wouldn't accept me) I went through flu like symptoms for about 2 weeks. Sweating, chills, nausea, diarrhea, pain, weakness, extremely tired. It is a bad idea to go cold turkey. You can actually die from withdrawals. I don't think 8 months will necessarily be long enough for that, but I would try to wean myself off. The stuff your dr. wrote you should help with your nerves. I wish the best to you. It was hard for me, but I did it and am glad I did. You can die. I'm saying this in reply to an answerer, not to say you would die, but read this:"

kimberly77006 replied: "You can't actually die from withdrawing from oxycodone but you might feel like you're going to. Expect flu like symptoms, chills, fever, loose stools, runny nose. You might also want to get some immodium to help with cramping and diarreah. It should take about a week. The thing to remember is that you stopped taking the pills for a reason and the feelings you will experience aren't going to last forever. Good luck."
