Motrin Tylonal Information in Q&A
When alternating Tylonal and Motrin for a sick todler how do you do it? I understand the whole basic principal but tylonal lasts four hours as oposed to Motrin lasting eight. Even though they have a diffrent time span do you still give medicine every two hours alternating if its needed. Does anyone know what the crud is? Its what the doctor says they have.

jamieann90 replied: "They are treated seperately ~ Give the tylonal at 10am, 2pm, 6pm, etc. Give the Motrin at 9am, 5pm, 1am (or when they're awake in the middle of the night), and then 8 hours later, etc. I had to do that for my daughter when she would run a fever. Just keep track of the times seperately and you'll be good, even if they do over-lap at some point, it's okay!"

Heather Y replied: "You alternate every 3 hours. For example: 8am tylenol, 11am motrin, 2pm tylenol, 5pm motrin, 8pm tylenol."

sissyj replied: "She's right it's ok if they overlap some. Motrin is supposed to be a little harder on an empty stomach, so I only do Tylenol at night, but either way is fine. get well soon!"

ShellyLynn replied: "Honestly?? You can overlap them by 5 minutes or take them together........but I would not recommend that for a baby. They are 2 different classes of medications that do 2 completely different things. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. Tylenol is an analgesic (pain killer). the are quite different. I never scheduled an overlap. I ALWAYS give Ibuprofen at bedtime (8pm) when she is teething, so she cannot have Ibuprofen at any time after 12 noon on bad teething days. Only Tylenol. And if she needed something in the evening, even it if was close to bed and she had not had anything recently, I gave Tylenol. If she had a fever and one did not work, I would give the other an hour later. It is not a good idea to double medicate for any one thing (fever, etc). But if one does not work, give the other. and if you know you are going to give one at a certain time (like bedtime) give the other one if needed beforehand."

Where is baby motrin and Tylonal sold? Please help baby just got shots=(

Artie Lange for President! replied: "walmart"

Chase replied: "Most drug stores, Target, Babies R Us, etc."

Surenne replied: "Are you serious? At any grocery store, walmart, etc."

silly momma replied: "Wherever regular tylenol and motrin is sold, there should be a section next to it that is all infant products. Baby tylenol, cold meds, allergy, etc. (Grocery store, Drugstore, chains like Target/Walmart, our BabiesRUs also has a whole section for baby products like that near the grooming items like clippers and brushes)."

Ariel101 replied: "You can go to any store now days to get it. There's wal-mart, Walgreen's, CVS, anywhere really. If you go to wal-mart, it will be sitting on the shelf by the pharmacy department. Poor baby... hope your little one gets to feeling better!!"

tessa46 replied: "walgreens walmart pharmacyes"

worldstiti replied: "all drug stores carry them and major food stores too"

♥Army Infantry Wife TTC#1 replied: "Walgreens, Hyvee, CVS, Walmart, Target, really any store or pharmacy."

candra_calhoon replied: "In my opinion, she shouldn't be giving it to him if she isn't smart enough to know she can purchase it almost anywhere. God forbid she read the instructions wrong and give her litttle one too much."

Alternating between tylonal and motrin for my 3 yr old..? My 3 year old is running a fever.. I've been alternating between tylonal and motrin.. I gave her some tylonal around 10pm.. it's 12:30am now and her fever has gone back up.. can I give her some motrin yet?... Her doctor told me to only take her to the ER if I can't keep her temp down.. but to bring her in to the doctor tomorrow.. She has a fever and is coughing.. She was put in the hospital 3 weeks ago with a viral infection.. I am really getting worried.. =[

Mommy to a blessed baby girl! replied: "Yes, you can go ahead and give the Motrin to her. Motrin and Tylenol are two separate medications, so you can use them together. Has her fever gone back up to its original level? How high is the fever? If it is higher then 103, I''d take her to the ER tonight just to be safe."

Can I give my 9 years old regular motrin? She has had a fever for the last two days. I have been giving her childrens tylonal but she hates the taste. Can I give her 1 adult motrin?

montana-chic replied: "Call the Dr. first. They might let you give her half."

Christina replied: "You simply gave her childrens - YAWN!"

Deep Thinker replied: "Regular Motrin has dosage information on it for 4-5 year olds and it has doses by weight so just read the instruction. I give my son Children's Motrin."

What are safe and natural ways to get baby to sleep? she is 23 mos old. She went to hosp last night for fever. fever broke and was sent home (diagnosis: a virus that is "going around") the fever is now being controlled by motrin/tylonal does alternating. She does not sleep more than 1/2 hr at a time. and then she refuses to go back to sleep. She normally loves bedtime. She wants nothing to drink. She's had several baths. Help!--Sleep depraved mom and dad needs help!! She also screams for no reason and loud and hard. She has also started quivering...her leg...her arm. ok what about teas?? Safe herbal teas? She drinking and eating again and fever is back down....now she misses her binky about 30 times a night. She's ususally fine if she loses it but now that she's sick she's gotta have it. Although she threw one in the trash last night and said good bye too it. We are down to one.

Mary G replied: "Poor baby.... she doesn't feel good.... I hope she gets better soon."

da_hammerhead replied: "Go for a drive."

KELLEY replied: "Poor little pumpkin. I hear you on the no sleep part, been there and done that...no fun! Does she possible have an ear infection in addition to her virus? Sounds like she really needs mom and dad's comfort right now. She may also have a very sore throat, especially if she isn't drinking. Have you tried some "white noise" in her room...Such as a fan, radio? Other than baths, white noise and what you are already doing...I cannot think of anything else. If this continues, I would call her Doctor again."

Colleen replied: "The quivering in her arm & leg concern me a bit. I'd call the doctor & ask about that. If she's screaming like that for no reason - trust me, there is a reason. You might consider taking her back to the hospital. DO NOT let them give you the garbage about overreacting, this is YOUR child & you know her best. Good luck."

Trina S replied: "Sounds more than just a virus going around. I am a Mom of two and in the past week and a half we have been dealing with E.R. and doctors for my two kids. My daughter is 21 months old and just getting over Upper Resp. Infection and lots of sores in her mouth from high fever. I can sympathize about loss of sleep. But the way you say she is acting, doesn't really sound like she is her normal self, almost like she is in pain. I would call your doctor or maybe take her to an urgent care clinic in your area. I mean, it could be more than just a virus. Kids have a way of letting you know something isn't right, trust me. As a Mom I have sensed things in my son and daughter, when they are sick and something that my husband thinks is nothing, turns to be something serious. My hubby says it must be a mothers's instinct. You are the parents, it just doesn't sound like your baby is doing good. We made a bed on the floor by our bed so my daughter could be in the same room, but we could stay in our own bed. It did help a little, although she mostly ended up in our bed. You need to keep her hydrated though. Drinking is important. Have you tried popsicles, or drinking from a straw. If you are unsure, get medical help. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I do hope you and your hubby get sleep and that your little princess is feeling better. I'll be praying for her and her Mommy and Daddy! Good Luck"

Beth H replied: "Dress her in something warm and play soft music, and be calm about thing try rocking her to sleep as well"

Honey Dip replied: "Sounds like you have her on the non drowsy pain medicine...I think you should switch."

s_i_l_e_n_t_d_u_d_e replied: "She feels much pain..please see a doctor"

motherhen2010 replied: "watch the supernanny marathon on ABC family from now until 6pm tonight"

Bobbi replied: "Sounds like she is dehydrated . Try finding some sort of jello or popsicles that have extra electrolytes in them . And are you giving her the Tylenol / Motrin on a schedule ? My children usually need there fever reducer a little earlier than the schedule calls for . And maybe a low dose of benadyl will help her sleep . Just some ideas . Usually works for my kids ."

How do I help my muscle pull? This morning (about 11:00) after I ate breakfast, I put my arm on the arm of the couch and put my head on my arm. Then I felt pain in my right sternocleidomastoid muscle. Now I have had it for about 7 hours. I took a hot shower, took Motrin & Tylonal, applied ice, and rested. Nothing helped. Now I'm starting to feel pain in my left trapezius muscle. Is there anything I can do to make my pain go away faster?

Cornelius replied: "dont work it that much"

richard replied: "try stretching it every 20 minutes but not too hard."

KK replied: "Consult a doctor. You've tried everything I would have suggested."

thai4rock replied: "try a heating pad"

can I give my dog tylonal for a hurting leg? My dog had knee surgery 2 years ago - today while playing in the snow she hurt her leg again- I am not sure if its the knee again or she pulled a mustle in her hip- I was hoping to give her something to ease the pain until I brought her to the doctor tomorrow- She is not putting weight on the leg so I know it is hurting her but she is not crying or yelping- I have tried to move the knee around and massage her hip- she lets me do all that and does not cry- but she is limping when trying to walk- Does anyone know what is safe to give a dog to ease the pain- I have tylonal, motrin, aleve and advil here at home- She is 9 and a soft coated wheaten terrier- Thank you for all your inputs-

proud liberal replied: "If your intent is killing the dog, sure!"

jjjgreene1 replied: "small dog only half"

Jillian M replied: "NO DONT GIVE IT TYLONAL give it doggie asprin you can buy it at trader joes"

Forrest C replied: "No. Tylenol is a human drug. For humans. You can make your dog seriously ill, or kill it. Take her to the vet, or give the vet a call. That is your best bet for your hurt pet."

sweet thang replied: "Do not give your dog Tylenol! If you need to give him anything, try Bayer aspirin. But I would recommend calling the vet to see what dosage you should give him."

ouija27 replied: "My vet said aspirin is alright to give to your dog. None of the pain relivers that you mentioned were brought up. My dog is 13 and has some trouble getting up and down, but after I give him an apsirin he is much better at movement. The onlything to worry about with this is the dosage. My dog is 75 pounds and he can take a full aspirin at a time, but if the dog is under 50 I would not give him more than half of a pill at any time. Also you do not want to over do it as it thins the blood, but if you do not exceed the dosage listed on the bottle you should have a happy dog."

Alabama Girl replied: "I actually killed my daughter's dog by giving him ibuprophen. Aspirin is o.k. though. As the vet about Rimadyl: It is approved for dogs and works like anti-inflammatories do in humans. It might be less expensive to get it from your vet."

kattsmeow22315 replied: "NO, DON'T GIVE DOGS TYLENOL!!! It can cause bleeding in there abdomen and it can also cause liver failure. This is true of Motrin, Aleve and Advil. Dogs are able to have aspirin, 325mg on a full stomach. There are many pain drugs available for dogs that your vet can prescribe, but an aspirin until you get there would be fine."

Get bad cramps, can't take advil, motrin, or anything else that has the stuff thats in there in it. Help!? Tylonal doesnt work for me either, neither does asprin ( it gives me a bad headache.) My periods are seven days long and I have severe cramps. I have also tried various herbal remedies, but none have worked. My doctor recomended birth control pills, but my health teacher says they lead to breast cancer... Any ideas?

Katlin B replied: "use a heating pad. Always works. Don't use midal it has cafine!"

ladybugs380 replied: "your health teacher is horrible wrong they prevent breast cancer, and are very helpful. You need to talk to your doctor and not your health teacher. I don't want to be mean, and my resource is a gynecologist"

Bekky L replied: "Lie down on your back or in the fetal position and get a heating pack or hot water bottle. Put it on your stomach where it hurts. It's always helps for me. Eating foods with lots of calcium or potassium like milk (calcium) or bananas (potassium) always help too. But in my opinion, taking a bath is the absoulute best thing you can do."

What are the baby medications you couldn't live without during your child's first year? I'm 36 weeks pregnant and i'm stocking up on everything I need. I thought about getting one of those baby relief kits, but for $30, I think I would do better to just buy store brand stuff individually. I know baby tylonal, baby motrin, oragel, and mylicon... I just want to see if there is anything I can't think of... I want to be ready for anything once he's here!! Thank you everyone!!

Nolan's mommy replied: "Tylenol and Motrin are the only ones I've used at all. But, I will tell you I used them a lot more than I thought I would need to as he ran a fever for several days after shots and during teething. It's nice to always have both on hand though because if baby's fever gets very high, you can alternate the two every three hours if needed. It wouldn't hurt to check your insurance to see if they are covered or if you would only need a co-pay. That way your doctor can have a prescription on file with available refills."

ஐ♥Kaylee's mom♥ஐ replied: "You got it!!! Those are the 4 that I could not live without! lol, for those few days after shots when my daughter ran a slight fever, or teething!!! Best wishes, and congrats on the soon to arive baby!!! :)"

Sansan replied: "I hate to say it, but most of these medicines exist to make the parent feel better, not the baby, so unless something exceptional happens, you don't need any of these. For some, you can substitute natural remedies (like a cold damp face-cloth for teething discomfort rather than the oragel); for others, you can just save your money (there's no proof mylicon works as its makers say it does). For a very high fever, Tylenol is advisable, but ONLY when the doctor says so first... having it in your medicine cabinet will be a waste until that time. (A parenthetical aside: there's speculation that surpressing fever in babies might enhance tendencies towards Autism... I don't want to contribute to any of the mythology around what causes ASD, but I know that's one of the ideas out there.)"

feistymomma replied: "It sounds like you have the most used meds covered! Infant Tylenol & Mylicon drops were the 2 I used most with my kiddos. Diaper rash cream is the only other thing I can think of (not a med but still important). Good luck with your impending arrival!"

Enisa replied: "get saline drops (ocean spray) for cleaning out your babies nose. I use this so much!! The doc told me this is much better than using the suction thing...and it really does work!"

Kamin_Majere replied: "You've pretty much got the basics covered. My daughter is 6 months old now and for the few days after shots and when her teeth are really hurting her i'll give her some Baby Tylenol, and I give a few drops of Mylicon with her bottles. I will second the mention of Rash creme and Saline drops though. I havent had to use the rash cream because shes never gotten diaper rash (thankfully) but she inherited my bad sinus' so I have to clean out her nose before bed most nights. One thing I have found that works instead of Oragel is "teething tablets" My wife found them at walmart or target (cant remember which) and they seem to help my daughter out alot more than oragel ever did and I even tried one and it doesnt have a medicine taste and I think just soothes instead of numbing the pain (I have this thing about not giveing something to her before I actually try it first...formula is quite nasty tasting if your curious) hope this helps"
